I began my interest in ceramics & textiles a few years ago, frustrated at not having a creative outlet, having pursued the corporate life after a design-led education. I felt I really needed to re-discover my artistic side.
After finding a great teacher, I began instruction in ceramics and really loved what I was doing, although was often frustrated and not being experienced enough and of a high enough standard for it to become anything more than a hobby. I then began thinking about how I could use what I WAS good at – business, marketing, sales & PR – and use those skills to develop an opportunity with the beautiful objects that other people are, quite frankly, far better than me at creating!
I had found what I wanted to do! Once I began searching out and then discovering such a huge wealth of talented people making such beautiful things, I just got so excited. There is a powerful seam of rich art, design and passion running through us. A practically endless source of wonderful material waiting to be discovered. That’s what House at Home does – it brings together a collection of delightful, simple, and interesting work from many designer-makers, developing a range of special items for the home.
Inspiration for me, and for many artists, comes from nature - from the colours, the textures and of course, the creatures that delight with the shared connection that we have on this planet. Experience all of this through the collection from House at Home, and from my writings on this blog – named Birdsong - a chattering, beautiful celebration of one of the most delightful creations of nature.
